In Italy, panettone is the centrepiece of Christmas and New Year celebrations. Family and friends slice it after a meal, sharing it with a glass of spumante, sweet dessert wine or a hot beverage.

Pandoro comes from the Italian phrase “pan d’oro” meaning “golden bread”.

This name reflects the cake’s rich, golden colour due to the bread being enriched with eggs, sugar, rich in butter and contains no preservatives.

 

A tall, distinctive eight-pointed star- shaped cake, exceptionally soft and fluffy, filled with a rich distinctive Limoncé liqueur cream,

is dusted with a lemon flavoured sugared icing, meant to evoke snow on a mountain.

Traditionally dusted with powdered icing sugar, which is included in a sachet inside the box.

A versatile treat.

It’s best to slice it as needed as it will quickly dry out.

Torn and dipped in milk or with your favourite hot beverage.

Cut into cubes and treat with liqueur or cognac.

It pairs well with sweet accompaniments such as mascarpone cream, Ice cream, custard, dried or candied fruits.

Hot or cold sauces and some fruits make panettone a delicious pudding.

Transformed into desserts like French toast and panettone bread and butter pudding, or makes a delicious layer in trifle-style puddings, with leftover panettone.
